Autograph letter signed from Anna Seward, Lichfield, to Charles Simpson, Lenthenchard, Okehampton, Devon [manuscript], 1800 August 18.

Seward writes mostly on Josuah Sylvester, Dryden and Milton. She briefly mentions Shakespeare: "Dryden ... placed Ben Jonson upon an higher poetic eminence than Shakespear! While the other critics of that day impudently asserted that the power of dramatic writing expired with that writer, tho Shakespear and Fletcher remained and wrote long after his death."
